How I Got $400 Back On $650 Flight Ticket Between Los Angeles to Frankfurt: Trip Cost $250 Only

Flight: American Airlines
Date: 28 Dec 2016 from Los Angeles to Frankfurt, 10 Jan 2017 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles
Flight cost: $650
Travel Insurance I had: Allianz Travel Insurance (Cost: $55 for 3 months)

I had my flight (71) on 10 Jan 2017 10:45 a.m. from Frankfurt to Dallas. It got canceled due to bad weather and American Airlines rebooked flight (9244) on 11 Jan 2017 10:00 a.m. They asked if I had a valid visa for Germany. I said yes. Then, they arranged a shuttle from the airport to a hotel. American Airlines staff was very supportive. They provided free snacks at the airport for everyone.

In evening, the shuttle picked all of us to the hotel. The hotel was awesome. They arranged free dinner and breakfast for everyone. In the early morning, the same shuttle picked us from the hotel and dropped at the airport. Though I wasted my one day but it was a good experience. I filed a claim for Travel Delay ($1600) on Allianz Travel Insurance website for this incident without any receipt. And, $200 got approved as per insurance company policy.

The flight (9244) on 11 Jan 2017 10:00 a.m. from Frankfurt got delayed for 1 hour and reached to Dallas at 4:00 p.m. My connecting flight (2496) from Dallas to Los Angeles was at 4:30 p.m. I missed my flight. American Airlines arranged next available flight (1632) for me from Dallas to Los Angeles at 7:29 p.m.  I filed a claim for Missed Connection ($1600) on Allianz Travel Insurance website for this incident without any receipt. And, $200 got approved as per insurance company policy.

I did not have any expense receipt with me as everything was taken care by American Airlines. Thanks to them. Though I had wasted my one day because of this incident but Allianz Travel Insurance made me happy in the last.

I was supposed to join my office back on 11 Jan 2017 but couldn't. I joined my office on 12 Jan 2017.

I received a check of $400 from Allianz Travel Insurance in my name. It means, the trip cost me $250. If I include insurance cost as well in this then overall $650 + $55 = $705 I had spent before the journey. After the journey, I got my $400 back. So the trip cost me $705 - $400 = $305 only. My travel insurance is still valid for next two months.
